When I looked into your eyes
I saw empty pain,
Buried deep beneath the hope
That the future won't hold the same.

What started with a simple smile
And a joke to lighten the air.
Has turned to a quest to discover
What happiness we can share.

As each day unfolds with uncertainty,
And my feet rooted to the ground.
My head swiftly soars through the clouds
At the thought of you being around.

I can't make a promise
Of what life has in store.
But for certain when I'm in your presence
My heart yearns for more.

These strange and thrilling feelings
Constantly give me pause.
My mind races, my blood pounds,
And you are the cause.

Honestly I did not think,
That this would ever happen to me.
I've steeled myself to the certainty
Of being forever single and free.

But it seems as though life had other plans,
And swept me into the sea;
Where turbulent emotions pitched and rocked
While you stood next to me.

I realize that this may simply be due
To my lifelong loneliness,  and need to feel as if I belong.
But that fear, I hope, is not true
Because I've found a kindred spirit in you.

You have helped me find my voice again,
Which is why I wrote this for you.
I have nothing but thanks, hope, and joy.
For I am better now for the pleasure of getting to know you.
